I’ve been taking classes for two weeks and have four weeks to go. Because of my life experience, I have expertise that professional training cannot replicate. How cool is that?
Once I’m certified, I’ll be able to assist others with mental challenges in articulating their goals for recovery, helping them monitor their progress, assisting them in their treatment, modeling effective coping techniques and self-help strategies based on the specialist’s own recovery experience, and advocating for the client in obtaining effective services.
I’m pretty stoked about this and I think this fairly new occupation will be an asset for anyone struggling with recovery. I’ll be able to work alongside or separately from other mental health professionals as another resource for recovery.
