OO’s very important mission is this: to bridge the gap between the 12 Steps and church. It offers:
CHRISTIAN RECOVERY SUPPORT GROUPS USING THE 12 STEPS AND SCRIPTURES
Overcomers Outreach is a ministry that was born out of a deep need of a support system for individuals and families within evangelical Christian churches. Overcomers Outreach support groups use the Bible and the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous to minister to individuals who are affected by alcohol, mind altering drugs, sexual addiction, gambling, food and other compulsive behaviors or dependencies. Family members are welcome at our meetings.
The message is based on the Bible and the ministry is motivated by the love of God. Overcomers mission is to bring the gospel of Jesus Christ to the hurting, and meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
A new word for our vocabulary.
If you are in recovery from substance abuse and are anything like me, in my final days of my active disease, my vocabulary had been reduced to four-letter words and many of them weren’t so nice. In recovery, we love to grow and learn. I’ve always had a fascination with words and I’d like to spread this contagion.
At the bottom of occasional posts, I will feature a word of the day so that we can start rebuilding our vocabulary as we rebuild our lives. I’m here to grow and I hope you are too so here we go…
Exigency
“Exigency” (EK-suh-jun-see) – from the Latin for “to force out” – is another way of saying “urgency.”
Example (as used by Helen Fisher in The First Sex): “But rearing and educating babies required women to prepare for exigencies that could occur decades down the road.”
[Ed. Note: Become a more persuasive writer and speaker… build your self-confidence and intellect… increase your attractiveness to others… just by learning a new word whenever you can.
